Still reading this but what's remarkable to me is the strength of the language -- "fraud," "sham" "con -- etc. and what kinds of legal/journalism conversations must have gone into those word choices.

One other thought: Trump himself said he was audited every year starting in 2002. This story -- thorough and exhaustive and detailed and impressive as it is -- doesn't even get into any of whatever the IRS looked into the past 16 years.

Интересно, почему семейство Трампов перестало строить дома для малоимущих. Это выгодный бизнес, который сопровождается государственными субсидиями. Семейство Кушнеров, к примеру, не брезгует.

In 1954, he was called before the Senate to testify about how he overcharged the federal government millions of dollars by inflating costs associated with a taxpayer-subsidized housing development in Brooklyn. That led to Fred being banned from bidding on federal housing contracts. He then focused on state-subsidized developments. But in 1966 he was called before a state investigations board to sit through embarrassing public hearings that explored how he had overbilled New York State for equipment and other costs. Those hearings essentially marked the end of Fred’s career as a major developer of publicly subsidized housing.
