Клайн прав, но это всего лишь часть гораздо более серьезной проблемы в системе отношений между правящей партией и оппозицией в Америке. For example, Trump's BS wouldn't fly in the UK because he would have to make regular speeches in the Parliament where he would face immediate hostile questioning on key policy issues. That is, the opposition party would have an immediate opportunity to expose and ridicule his BS right there on the spot. Unlike in the US, it would be much harder for him to get away with outrageous claims, e.g. about tariffs, immigration, budget deficit, etc. As a result, the media would cover both the BS and its instant rebuttal. Importantly, it wouldn't look partial while exposing the BS.

By contrast, here in the US, the president has the ability to pick a friendly public audience that is ready to applaud any of his BS. And that's the media coverage we get. Moreover, he can go for months without being directly challenged on major policy issues. When the media exposes his lies it appears partial and people instinctively don't trust it.
