В смысле, не я (хотя и я тоже), а Donald J. Trump. Это я посмотрел отрывки из ответов Трампа на разные вопросы на сегодняшней пресс-конференции.

Что можно сказать о пресс-конференции... Не в том даже дело, что Трамп говорит что-то, с чем я не согласен. Дело в том, что многое (пожалуй, бОльшая часть) того, что он говорит, не имеет никакого смысла вообще. Это не просто глупое "airing of grievances", но местами совершенно бессмысленный набор слов.

Мне больше всего понравился ответ Трампа еврейскому репортеру. На реакцию репортера тоже забавно смотреть.

TRUMP: He said he was going to ask a easy question — okay sit down, I understand the rest of your question. Folks, number one, I am the least anti-Semitic person that you have seen in your entire life. Number two, racism. The least racist. We did relatively well — quiet, quiet, quiet — see he lied about what was going to be a very straight simple question. I hate the charge. I find it repulsive, I hate even the question because people that know me and you heard the Prime Minister, you heard Betanyahu yesterday. Did you hear him, Bibi, he said I've known Donald Trump for a long time and said forget it so you should take that instead of getting up and asking a very insulting question like that. Just shows you about the press but that's the way the press is.

Мне кажется, верит-не верит тут не совсем уместные категории. Так же как и говорит правду-врет. Тут все более сложно: что ему представляется правдой в каждый данный момент? и через пять минут ему будет казаться правдой что-то совсем другое... Конвей очень правильно это определила, описывая ситуацию в Флинном: "It was all fluid." Вот у них все и все время fluid, а простаки вроде нас с вами все пытаются оставаться в системе координат "правда (факт) - ложь (выдумка)". Умные люди уже давно ушли вперед, в post-factual reality.

Раскапывать горы вранья - неблагодарное занятие, но про Конвей у меня нет сомнения, что она знает, что врет. Про Трампа - не всегда.

Традиционным для русской школы психиатрии является такое определение: "Под бредом мы понимаем совокупность болезненных представлений, рассуждений и выводов, овладевающих сознанием больного, искаженно отражающих действительность и не поддающихся коррекции извне."

In every human social interaction, there are two kinds of communication going on. There are the words themselves, with their shared meanings. And there are the countless signals and cues being exchanged — tone, expression, body language, and bearing — about social dynamics and hierarchy.

Every interaction is both an exchange of semantic information and a dance of social positioning, even those, as in science or academia, that strive to be purely the former.

To all appearances, Trump is engaged solely in the latter form of communication, and only in a narrow way: He treats all social interactions as zero-sum games establishing dominance and submission. In every interaction, someone is going to win and someone is going to lose, be with Trump or against him.

It’s not that Trump is saying things he believes to be false. It’s that he doesn’t seem to have beliefs at all, not in the way people typically talk about beliefs — as mental constructs stable across time and context. Rather, his opinions dissolve and coalesce fluidly, as he’s talking, like oil on shallow water. That’s why he gives every indication of conviction, even when, say, denying that he has said something that is still posted on his Twitter feed.

Moral philosopher Harry Frankfurt got at some of this in his celebrated book "On Bullshit". Bullshitters don’t lie, he said, so much as treat the truth as irrelevant, orthogonal to their purposes. But even Frankfurt’s bullshitters are, on some level, choosing to bracket considerations of truth value. That implies they are aware of such considerations; they know what they’re doing.

There’s no evidence that Trump is aware of them at all. He’s a bullshitter who doesn’t know he’s bullshitting, because he doesn’t know that there’s any other way to communicate.
