Продолжаем про расовый профайлинг

Во-первых, извиняюсь перед теми, кому эта тема надоела. Я не планировал столько записей об этом написать, но как-то... к примеру, написал про высказывание Обамы, логично, видимо, и про то, что он сегодня, если и не извинился, то сильно сдал назад, написать нужно.

Значит, Обама сегодня не извинился перед полицией, но сказал что-то довольно похожее на извинения. Обама сказал следующее (отсюда):

This has been ratcheting up, and I obviously helped to contribute ratcheting it up. I want to make clear that in my choice of words, I think I unfortunately gave an impression that I was maligning the Cambridge Police Department and Sgt. Crowley specifically. And I could've calibrated those words differently.

Ну, молодец, приятно это слышать.

Кроме того, Обама позвонил полицейскому, который арестовал Гейтса:

Obama [...] said he had called Crowley to clear the air, and said the conversation confirmed his belief that the sergeant is an "outstanding police officer and a good man."

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs refused to say whether Obama had apologized to Crowley.

Гейтсу Обама тоже позвонил. Не все, конечно, удовлетворены тем, что сказал Обама, некоторые требуют, чтобы он четко извинился перед полицией... Интересно даже, кто первым извинится: полицейский перед Гейтсом, Обама перед полицейским... Кто, я думаю, точно извиняться не будет -- это Гейтс. Хотя, может, я и ошибаюсь.

И последнее. Мне ppk_ptichkin дал ссылку на этот текст. Там весьма длинно, я только немного прочел, но то, что прочел, мне показалось разумным. В частности, это:

Assuming a cop is a racist is its own form of unwarranted bias.

Мне вот тоже так кажется. Это ж правильно, или нет?

И про профайлинг:

This particular incident was not an instance of racial profiling. A small point worth clarifying. Profiling occurs when the police proactively investigate possible criminal activity, independently using the race of a person as a contributing factor for considering that person to be the suspect in a crime. For example, given a mixed population of drivers on a highway, they select out the black drivers for investigation with the belief that they are the ones who are most likely to be running drugs. This is obviously a whole other problem. In the case here, the officer was informed by a citizen that a crime may have occurred, and the woman stated the people who she observed were in fact black. It would have been profiling in this case if the sergeant went peering into the windows of Cambridge homes, leaving white occupants alone, and confronting the black occupants to see if they were burglars. It would also have been profiling if the sergeant drives past white door-breakers without investigating but stops and questions the black door-breakers he sees. Without a doubt, good cops stop anyone who is forcing a front door open. It should be followed by either arrest, or assistance.
