Трамп вчера толкнул convention speech. Коротенько, на полтора часа.

Это было самое длинное выступление номинанта на партийном съезде в истории. На втором месте выступление того же Трампа на съезде в 2016 году. На третьем, как вы, наверное, угадали, снова Трамп, но в 2020 году.

It's a weird but pretty good speech. The past few weeks have gone about as badly as possible for Democrats, and they're likely underdogs against Trump regardless of who they nominate, but the opportunity to reset the campaign with a non-Biden nominee is a twist of good fortune.

Сложно не согласиться: The right lesson to take from Trump’s pathetic display is that there is a lot of upside in putting a normal non-elderly candidate up there to kick Trump’s ass.

Kamala has her flaws. But I think Americans who haven't heard from a presidential candidate who isn't Trump or Biden for 8 years will be awestruck by the magisterial oratory of a replacement-level 50-something politician

"Come on, man"

Сообщения о том, что еще один конгрессмен или сенатор призвал Байдена сняться, поступают сегодня, по-моему, каждые полчаса.

Я не вижу для Байдена никакого смысла оставаться в гонке. Он может остаться в истории, как президент, победивший Трампа, а может как человек, ради тщеславия, вернувший Трампа в Белый Дом.

"Biden must choose vanity or virtue" — архиверно сказано.

И я согласен с Клайном, Trump is very beatable:

Tonight’s speech is going to harden Democrats’ spines. The best argument against the party replacing Biden was fatalism: if you’ll lose anyway, may as well lose conventionally.

But no Democrat watching that speech thought Trump unbeatable. It was an antidote to fatalism.
