Вчера Шепард Смит, фактически единственный ведущий ежедневной программы на Fox News, пусть и выходившей в дневное время, который регулярно критиковал Трампа, сообщил, что его время в этой телекомпании закончилось. С Fox News Смит был с момента запуска телекомпании в 1996 году. Его прощание со зрителями в ролике ниже.

Что я по этому поводу думаю... Я не поклонник "The Young Turks", отнюдь. Но мне кажется, что то, что здесь говорит John Iadarola совершенно верно.

I think what we are seeing here, what Trump wants out of Fox News, and what they are creating by getting rid of Shep Smith is... There is this ever-present radicalization of media where people are pushing for more extreme versions of what they enjoyed previously. And what is important to know about this change at Fox is that Fox is not through this becoming more conservative, it is becoming more conspiratorial, more detached from reality. It is becoming more extreme, but not more extremely right. That's important; it is just more purified BS. It's what people want to hear; they want to see the Breitbart conspiracy theories, they want to see this stuff they can see on 4chan; they just want to see it with some good production values. And so that's what they are chasing; not better right-wing policy proposals.

Абсолютно верно: у немалой части общества есть запрос на "this stuff they can see on 4chan", но в профессионально сделанной упаковке.

Цена -- more detached from reality становится не только Fox News, черт бы с ним, но общество в целом. И я уже тоже не раз писал о том, что мейнстримные трампистские теории становятся настолько похожи на теории поклонников Q, например, что между ними уже сложно провести черту.

Pete Sessions appears to be ‘Congressman 1′ ensnared in Guiliani associates’ indictment

On May 9, 2018, Parnas posted a photo of himself and his business partner David Correia with Sessions in his Capitol Hill office, with the caption “Hard at work !!” [...]

Later that same day, Sessions sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo seeking Yovanovitch’s dismissal because he had “notice of concrete evidence” that she had “spoken privately and repeatedly about her disdain for the current Administration.”

Campaign finance records show Parnas and Fruman later contributed $2,700 apiece to Session’s campaign, the maximum allowed individual contribution.

Quid pro quo

Gordon Sondland, посол США в ЕС и активный участник операции Трампа/Джулиани в Украине, несмотря на то ли запрет, то ли рекомендацию Госдепа, решил дать показания в Конгрессе. В четверг. Требуемых документов, правда, предоставлять не будет, вроде бы.

Так вот о его показаниях. Пару часов назад в WaPo вышла статья с весьма explosive информацией. Я ее сейчас процитирую, но a word of caution: одной из очень немногих ошибок мейнстримных СМИ в российском скандале было сообщение CNN о том, что Коми в своих показаниях в Конгрессе скажет, что не говорил Трампу, что тот не является целью расследования. Плюс, до четверга еще немало времени, и Sondland может несколько изменить свои показания.

Да, и если кто-то невнимательно следил, часть про quid pro quo -- это вот этот обмен текстовыми сообщениями:



Trump’s envoy to testify that ‘no quid pro quo’ came from Trump

The U.S. ambassador to the European Union, Gordon Sondland, intends to tell Congress this week that the content of a text message he wrote denying a quid pro quo with Ukraine was relayed to him directly by President Trump in a phone call, according to a person familiar with his testimony.

Sondland plans to tell lawmakers he has no knowledge of whether the president was telling him the truth at that moment. “It’s only true that the president said it, not that it was the truth,” said the person familiar with Sondland’s planned testimony, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive diplomatic matters.

Hours before Sondland called the president, he received a text message from the acting ambassador to Ukraine, William B. Taylor, raising questions about the aid holdup. “I think it’s crazy to withhold security assistance for help with a political campaign,” Taylor texted Sondland.

That’s when Sondland, according to the person’s understanding, called Trump, who then told him he didn’t “want a quid pro quo . . . didn’t want anything from Ukraine.” The call lasted less than five minutes, and Trump appeared to be in a foul mood, according to the person, who spoke to The Post with Sondland’s permission, an intermediary said.

Sondland is expected to say that for months before the Sept. 9 message, he worked at the direction of Rudolph W. Giuliani, Trump’s personal attorney, to secure what he would call in another text message the “deliverable” sought by Trump: a public statement from Ukraine that it would investigate corruption, including mentioning Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company, by name. In exchange for the statement, the president would grant Ukraine’s new president a coveted White House audience.

“It was a quid pro quo, but not a corrupt one,” the person familiar with Sondland’s testimony said.

Это уже интересней, поскольку Трамп черт знает сколько раз повторил "никакого quid pro quo не было".

From May to August, Giuliani’s requests for investigations seemed odd but not overly concerning to Sondland, the person said.

“The statement that Rudy was demanding was a quid pro quo for a White House visit, there was no doubt about that. But it was about corruption, which from their perspective wasn’t particularly problematic, it’s an issue the U.S. had been dealing with there for years.”

Конечно, there could be no doubt about that, это ж прямо на поверхности. Но Трампу это не мешает повторять "no quid pro quo".

By Sept. 9, Sondland, however, had grown increasingly concerned, as military funding for Ukraine now appeared tied to the statement as well. The person said Sondland was never briefed about Biden being part of the issue and was not aware of it until the transcript of the phone call was released. “If he had known earlier, he never would have touched this.”

А вот это уже совсем непонятно на кого рассчитано. Не говоря даже о том, что Джулиани в прессе связывал Бурисму с Байденом -- предположим, что Sondland этих интервью не читал; но как Sondland объяснял себе интерес Джулиани к Бурисме?

Однако, тот факт, что Sondland отрицает, что знал про связь с Байденом, говорит о том, что они все прекрасно понимают, насколько shady, за неимением лучшего слова, было то, чем они занимались.
