Барни Франк чуть ли не в одиночку пытается добиться отмены запрета на онлайн-гэмблинг (sort of запрета), который республиканцы протащили в самом конце своего командования Конгрессом.

A senior House Democrat introduced bills Wednesday that would suspend rules banning Internet-based gambling and seek to regulate it instead.

Это пока полумеры, конечно, потому что sports betting, насколько я понял, предполагается, все равно, исключить, но хоть первый шаг в верном направлении.

Вот послушайте, как Барни представляет свои bills на пресс-конференции:

But my fundamental reasons for doing this are that government should not interfere with people's liberties unless there is a good reason for doing that [...] We have a right and an obligation to protect people form other people -- it is a great mistake to protect people against themselves. [...] A lot of people who are not terribly political woke up one day to find out that something that they enjoy doing, that is a good hobby for them, that does not hurt anybody else was suddenly criminalized.
