Трамп дал очередное эпическое интервью, в этот раз NYT. rsokolov написал о части интервью, касающейся конфликта интересов Мюллера, а я напишу о части про Сешнса.

TRUMP: Because I have done nothing wrong. A special counsel should never have been appointed in this case.

BAKER: Can we put that on the record?

TRUMP: Because so far, the only — yeah, you can put it down.

SCHMIDT: Was that [Attorney General Jeff] Sessions’s mistake or [Deputy Attorney General Rod J.] Rosenstein’s mistake?

TRUMP: Look, Sessions gets the job. Right after he gets the job, he recuses himself.

BAKER: Was that a mistake?

TRUMP: Well, Sessions should have never recused himself, and if he was going to recuse himself, he should have told me before he took the job, and I would have picked somebody else.

HABERMAN: He gave you no heads up at all, in any sense?

TRUMP: Zero. So Jeff Sessions takes the job, gets into the job, recuses himself. I then have — which, frankly, I think is very unfair to the president. How do you take a job and then recuse yourself? If he would have recused himself before the job, I would have said, “Thanks, Jeff, but I can’t, you know, I’m not going to take you.” It’s extremely unfair, and that’s a mild word, to the president. So he recuses himself. I then end up with a second man, who’s a deputy.

HABERMAN: Rosenstein.

TRUMP: Who is he? And Jeff hardly knew. He’s from Baltimore.

TRUMP: Yeah, what Jeff Sessions did was he recused himself right after, right after he became attorney general. And I said, “Why didn’t you tell me this before?” I would have — then I said, “Who’s your deputy?” So his deputy he hardly knew, and that’s Rosenstein, Rod Rosenstein, who is from Baltimore. There are very few Republicans in Baltimore, if any. So, he’s from Baltimore. Now, he, we went through a lot of things. We were interviewing replacements at the F.B.I. Did you know Mueller was one of the people that was being interviewed?

Оставляя даже в стороне всю бредовость "он мне должен был сказать до назначения, что возьмет отвод", главное тут в том, что Трамп явно считает, что Attorney General работает на него, на Трампа. И республиканские сенаторы это прекрасно понимают. Как понимают и то, что это, мягко говоря, disturbing.

И тем не менее:

A group of Republican senators criticized President Donald Trump on Thursday, a day after the President rebuked top law enforcement officials in an interview with The New York Times.

"The attorney general is America's top law enforcement official," one GOP senator said. "It's unclear if he understands that, and that's pretty disturbing."

The senator was referring to Trump's comment in the Times' interview that he would not have hired Attorney General Jeff Sessions had he known Sessions would go on to recuse himself from investigations related to the 2016 campaign. The senator said Trump seemed to be thinking of the law enforcement heads as his personal employees.

"One gets the impression that the President doesn't understand or he willfully disregards the fact that the attorney general and law enforcement in general -- they are not his personal lawyers to defend and protect him," one GOP senator told CNN. "He has (his) own personal lawyers, and of course, the White House has the White House counsel's office."

That Republican senator and two others spoke on background with CNN to avoid prompting a fight with the President. Maine GOP Sen. Susan Collins was the only one of the four to speak on the record in response to Trump's comments about Sessions, acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe and former FBI Director James Comey as well as his venting about the special counsel investigation into Russian attempts to influence the 2016 election. The third Republican said he was stunned by Trump's remark on Mueller, although he said "at this point" perhaps it shouldn't surprise him.

А это на самом деле так. Attorney General - это кабинетная позиция. В отличие от директора ФБР.

Ну, если не понимать "работает на" совсем уж буквально. Чего от Трампа ожидать сложно.

я пару месяцев назад написала о том, почему нельзя переносить успешность Трампа в его бизнесе (даже если принять эту успешность на веру) в потенциальный успех как президента: потому что real estate и entertainment business очень далеки от того, чем живет большинство экономики. Тогда же я собиралась, но, кажется, так и не написала, о том, что один из главных компонентов, почему аналогия "если он там преуспел, то и президентом будет хорошим" не работает -- потому что он работал президентом только в частных компаниях.

Если на то уж пошло, то управление страной гораздо-гораздо ближе к управлению публичной компанией, с советом директоров, которые избираются шерхолдерами (и большим количеством шерхолдеров). Вот если б у него был бы хотя бы опыт президентства в публичной компании, то может он хоть как-то понимал бы, что fiduciary duty у офицеров такой компании -- совсем не президенту, а шерхолдерам. И может тогда хоть как-то сейчас бы смог понять насколько не только бредовы, но потенциально опасны для страны его утверждения о том, что recusal Сешшинза как-то нечестен по отношению "к президенту."

Интересно, скажем, Яков нанимает слесаря чинить канализацию у себя в доме. Нанимает потому, что ему рекомендовали этого слесаря как честного человека и мастера-золотые руки.

Слесарь присылает вместо себя подмастерья.

Может ли Яков в такой ситуации считать, что его как-то обманули?

Республиканцы проявляют свою легендарную храбрость и принципиальность. Причём боятся они не столько Трампа, сколько настоящих вождей партии - Раша Л. И Шона Х.
