Беременные подростки
Продолжаю с интересом следить за развитием событий после рейда ранчо мормонов-фундаменталистов.
16-летнюю девочку, звонок которой и вызвал рейд, по-прежнему не нашли. Зато сразу после рейда власти нам рассказали, что на ранчо нашли немало девочек-подростков, которые были либо беременны, либо уже родили. Речь шла о 13-14-летних детях, если не ошибаюсь. Даже процитирую утреннюю заметку AFP, чтобы не быть голословным:

Они не дошли еще до беременных подростков что ли, или нет никаких беременных подростков?
Department of Public Safety Sgt. Danny Crawford testified to DPS's discovery of a church bishop's records taken from a safe at the ranch that listed about 38 families, some of them polygamous and some that included wives 16 or 17 years old. But under repeated cross-examination, Crawford acknowledged the records contained no evidence of sexual abuse.

There are "pregnant teenagers" indeed, but not 13-14 yo. They are 16 and over.

А одна заметка попалась, так в ней и "пытки". "Пока неизвестно, каким пыткам подвергались..." Немного успокоившись, заподозрил я, что "пытки" получились при попытке перевода слова "abuse". Очень растяжимое слово, поэтому его любят authorities, когда хотят черной краской намазать тех, у кого детей отбирают.
Однако! Яков - у вас ошибка - недавние слушания в суде были не о лишении родительских прав, а о том, чтобы детей пока не возвращать, чтобы удобнее их допрашивать было (ostensibly, "to make them safe from further abuse").
However, several dozen "pregnant teenagers" are the only hard evidence of "abuse" so far. Maybe they, or some of them, were pressed to marry against their will. Yet we do not know how hard were they pressed, or even whether they were pressed at all. IMPORTANT: US law is such that this is called RAPE even if the girl is quite ready and willing. [Law, and terminology, varies between states.]
Authorities keep talking about "pregnant teenagers in 14-17 age group". However very few, if any at all, of the pregnant teenagers are under 16.
