Я, с одной стороны, согласен, что сейчас далеко не самое важное, называть ли вирус коронавирусом или китайским вирусом, или еще как. Но, с другой стороны, совершенно же прозрачно, для чего они переходят к "иностранному вирусу".
The uptick in referring to the virus by the country or people it first infected comes after the World Health Organization last week urged people not to call it a “Wuhan virus,” “Chinese virus” or “Asian virus.” “The official name for the disease was deliberately chosen to avoid stigmatization,” the organization advised on March 2 by calling it covid-19. Rep. Judy Chu (D-Calif.) sent a letter to all of her congressional colleagues on Feb. 26 urging them to stop using terminology that stokes fear and prejudice against Asian Americans. “Since the outbreak of COVID-19, we have seen a surge of discriminatory rhetoric and violent attacks against Asian Americans across the country,” Chu wrote in a letter signed by members of the Asian Pacific American Caucus. “Even just looking Asian has been enough to incite attackers to hurl insults and accuse individuals of being disease carriers.” The next day, during a hearing on the Department of Health and Human Services budget, Chu got Secretary Alex Azar to commit to stop referring to it as the “China coronavirus.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/cdc-director-rejects-label-chinese-virus-after-trump-mccarthy-tweets/2020/03/10/58bd086c-62e5-11ea-b3fc-7841686c5c57_story.html
Last month, members of CAPAC sent a letter to every Member of Congress urging them to not stoke xenophobia or spread misinformation, citing the rise in racial prejudice and violent attacks against Asian Americans in the aftermath of the COVID-19 outbreak. Judy Chu to no longer reference a specific location or country when referring to COVID-19, acknowledging that it puts people at risk of being discriminated against because of ethnicity. Also that week, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Chief Medical Officer Dr. Mitch Wolfe said that “stigma is the enemy of public health.” And just this morning, CDC Director Robert Redfield reaffirmed that it is inappropriate and wrong to refer to COVID-19 as “Chinese coronavirus.” The CDC’s website also cautions against the negative impacts to public health of stigma and xenophobia. https://capac-chu.house.gov/press-release/democratic-leaders-color-mccarthy-gosar-must-apologize-spreading-xenophobia-and
