Роль христианства не стоит преуменьшать. Как и роль арабских мусульман, благодаря которым сочинения древних греков удалось пронести через мрак средних веков. Но то, что мы называем цивилизацией, родилось в процессе отказа от мракобесия, а не возврата к нему. И хотя пилигримы были религиозными фанатиками, отцы-основатели США были людьми сугубо нерелигиозными.
